The story behind the paintings

I started painting in high school, but never really pursued art as something serious. I’m not sure it ever will be serious for me — it is a playground, a way to express myself, experiment, and simply enjoy creating.

Without ever studying art formally, drawing and painting simply stayed with me over the years. Every time I moved, dozens of paintings would end up being given away because there were always so many accumulating.

Eventually, the desire to share the pieces I love the most grew. And that is how this shop came about: to let others enjoy the work with me and, if a piece speaks to them, take a little part of it home.

What inspires me

I am inspired by Mauritius’ ruggedness, unique cultural identity and striking natural beauty. My paintings aim to capture Mauritian life - sometimes modern and fast-moving, and at other times offering a glimpse into the past.

So I paint what catches my attention, from the most ordinary details to the grandest landscapes our island has to offer.
There is so much that goes unnoticed in everyday life: the tabagie down the road, an old stone church, a kitchen filled with familiar metal pots and colourful plastic. Things you may only know from being a local.
Each painting is an invitation to pause, look, and appreciate what is there.

The printing process

Every print begins as an original watercolour painting, created slowly by hand; birthed from my experiences and the things that catch my attention.

The finished artwork is scanned and prepared for print, with care taken to preserve the colour, texture and character of the original painting.

Each piece is then offered in a range of sizes, from smaller prints that are easy to gift or tuck into a space, to larger statement pieces made to stand out on their own.

The fulfilment process

Orders made in Mauritius are printed on beautifully textured Munken Pure matte paper. International prints are produced on Hahnemühle German Etching, a heavyweight fine-art paper with a natural texture and beautiful depth.

Mauritius orders are prepared locally, while international orders are produced closer to their destination through my fine-art print partner. This allows the work to travel further without every print needing to make the journey from Mauritius.
